Il 18 settembre 1970 è una data triste per la storia della musica. In una stanza del Samarkand Hotel a Londra muore, in circostanze a tutt’oggi non ancora chiarite, Jimi Hendrix. Per rendere omaggio a colui che con il suo modo di proporre ed interpretare la musica rivoluzionò tutta un’epoca, aprendo nuovi orizzonti per lo sviluppo della stessa in tutti i suoi generi, a distanza di quarant’anni, l’Assessorato
istruzione e cultura della Regione autonoma Valle d’Aosta intende ricordare la figura di Hendrix con un concerto tributo. Per la prima volta in Europa il fratello Leon si esibirà al fianco del funambolico Randy Hansen e racconterà la sua infanzia ed adolescenza a Seattle con Jimi e l’incredibile, ma purtroppo
breve, parabola artistica del grandissimo musicista che per lui era semplicemente
l’adorato fratello maggiore. Dopo dieci anni dalla sua ultima tournée italiana ritorna il chitarrista californiano Randy Hansen, considerato in tutto il mondo il più autorevole interprete della musica di Hendrix, sia per quel che riguarda il lato strettamente tecnico-musicale, sia per l’aspetto scenografico- spettacolare.
Un vero e proprio “clone” di Jimi Hendrix, dotato però di una spiccata sensibilità artistica.
Un vero funambolo delle sei corde, un trascinatore che sa entusiasmare il pubblico e che in passato ha collaborato con musicisti quali Steve Miller, Herbie Hancock, Stevie Ray Vaughan e soprattutto Noel Redding e Mitch Mitchell, bassista e batterista della mitica Jimi Hendrix Experience.

Nato nel 1992, Milano Guitar Show - SHG è il più importante appuntamento italiano per gli appassionati di chitarra e uno dei più importanti in Europa. Una giornata dedicata alle chitarre, nel corso della quale gli appassionati possono vedere il meglio della produzione mondiale, provare e valutare in totale libertà, acquistare, vendere e scambiare strumenti, partecipando anche al programma di contorno a base di demo dal vivo e workshop. Il tutto al prezzo di un unico biglietto di ingresso (10 euro).

Dopo qualche anno, la manifestazione torna al Quark Hotel per poter crescere: più spazio, più espositori, più strumenti, nel nuovo centro congressi totalmente rinnovate. La nuova sede porterà innumerevoli vantaggi alla manifestazione (maggior superficie espositiva, facilità di parcheggio, qualità di bar e ristoranti), che si conferma il più importante guitar show italiano e uno dei più importanti in Europa.

La nuova, ennesima, associazione culturale valdostana si chiama “Arteintesta”. In realtà in testa al suo fondatore e vice presidente Luca Addario (il presidente è Simone Pellicanò) c’è, più specificatamente, la chitarra. Così come al suo maestro Alessandro Giorgetta, virtuoso dello strumento, che per anni al CCS Cogne ha tenuto corsi di chitarra che hanno avuto Addario tra gli allievi, mentre attualmente è docente dello special-lab di chitarra rock-fusion presso la SFOM di Aosta. Ed è stato sempre Giorgetta a creare e promuovere “Guitar Day- Festival chitarristico di Aosta”, la cui terza edizione si è tenuta sabato 13 giugno al Teatro Giacosa di Aosta. La novità è stata che quest’anno ad organizzarla era, appunto, la neonata associazione “Arteintesta” con la direzione artistica di Addario, la consulenza di Giorgetta ed il contributo dell’amministrazione comunale di Aosta e dell’Assessorato regionale all’Istruzione e Cultura. La classica terna di concerti si è questa volta concentrata in un’unica serata nel corso della quale sul palco del Giacosa si sono alternati alcuni guitar heroes nostrani: da Tony Degruttola e Miky Bianco dei “Two Bald Axis” allo stesso Giorgetta (che si è esibito con Sunnie G, voce protagonista alle Olimpiadi di Torino 2006 e nel corpo di danza dei “Kataklò”). Per finire con Simone Falovo ed i suoi “Elektradrive”. Al termine tutti sul palco per un’infuocata jam-session che ha reso omaggio ai grandi guitar-heroes di tutti i tempi.

Dunlop went for a real sixties sound on this one. If you are a little shy about using a wah-wah you may want to keep shopping because this thing is very pronounced. It’s has a great raspy vowel-like thing happening. The sweep is a little quirky with most of the fun happening in the top 1/3 of the pedal. That top 1/3 is nice but the lower 2/3 has a very muddy sound that almost disappeared within the context of a band situation. I’m sure the tone pot could be twisted to produce a better range but we were expecting more from a stock unit. The lack of true bypass sucks a bit of tone and you will experience a touch of high end loss. Aside from those gripes, The Hendrix wah still has a unique voice that might work for your own playing style, just be prepared to open it up and twist that tone pot.

This bright orange pedal practically defined the classic phase shifter sound. This one-knobbed orange wonder has played its part in nearly every genre's effect happy moments. The Phase 90 has been stomped and swirled through 70s jazz fusion, 80's hard rock, and even 90s grunge. The effect is very pronounced and always ready to sweep your signal into action. The newer models are remarkably close to older models in terms of overall sound and durability. There are some advantages and disadvantages to buying new or buying vintage. For example, the older units are a little smoother but tend to be a noisy while the newer units add a tinge of distortion on faster settings but adds LED status and AC power. Take this into consideration when shopping around but all in all, you really can't go wrong with all the various versions of the Phase 90.

Le canzoni dei 10 finalisti ispireranno delle opere a pittori e a fotografi, secondo le sensazioni trasmesse da ogni singola canzone. Alla serata della finale, sul palco di un noto teatro di Milano, per ogni interpretazione canora verranno video-proiettate le diapositive dei quadri e delle foto abbinate alle singole canzoni, ricreando una continuità tra l'atmosfera pittorica e quella musicale. Il quadro vincitore verrà venduto all’asta per beneficenza.

Saranno promossi 10 finalisti. Le canzoni dei 10 finalisti ispireranno delle opere a pittori e a fotografi, secondo le sensazioni trasmesse da ogni singola canzone.
Terza fase: Milano Music Festival I 10 finalisti della Musica saliranno sul palco di un noto teatro di Milano, dove ad ogni interpretazione canora, verranno video-proiettate le diapositive dei quadri e delle foto abbinate alle singole canzoni, ricreando una continuità tra l'atmosfera pittorica e quella musicale.
L'opera artistica vincitrice verrà messa all'asta la sera stessa, e il ricavato sarà immediatamente consegnato al Direttore Operativo del Ciai onlus ed al pittore verrà data visibilità su 3 facciate di una rivista d’arte. La band o il cantautore vincente riceverà un biglietto aereo andata e ritorno per Madrid , dove si esibirà in un locale live della città. This is the fuzz pedal Hendrix used throughout his career. Mention this pedal to any rabid fuzz nut and you'll hear a flurry of cryptic part numbers like AC-128s, BC 108 and 109s, BC-183Ls, and NKT-275s. Two hours later you've just endured a long-winded lecture on all the different Germanium PNP and Silicon Transistors used in the various Fuzz Faces. While there is much debate over which model is the best, most experts agree on that the Germanium NKT-275 Model sounds the sweetest. Thats said, the Fuzz Face is that recognizable bassy to mid-toned fuzz. It's warm and wooly with just enough edge to make full grown amps melt. These things literally sing and that ablity to sing is what has made this particular model the Holy Grail of all fuzz boxes. Prices on the used market are in the ridiculous range so most gearheads buy the Dunlop Re-issue, and modify them to original specs.

Big Tone Does Come In Small Packages!
The Dallas Rangemaster is one of the most famous treble boosters in musical effects history. It is known for a very sweet sound, not harsh or shrill like other treble boosters. This could be due to the fact that it uses a Germanium transistor instead of Silicon transistors that modern-design boosters use. I used a NPN Germanium transistor (2N388A) instead of a PNP so that I can use a negative ground so that I can use the same power supply as all my other effects. My also version incorporates some modifications that are intended to improve it’s sound and to possibly prolong it’s lifespan. I have added a reverse-biased Germanium diode between the base-emitter junction of the transistor to offset the effects of temperature variation on the transistor (this modification is outlined in the “Britface” article on the Plate-to-Plate site). The second modificiation is a 1N4001 diode in parallel with the power supply to protect the circuit from any accidental reverse bias that may occur. I also added 1M resistors to the input and output to prevent popping with my true bypass arrangement. As RG said in his article about the RangeMaster, you REALLY need to use 1% metal-film resistors for this circuit because they are less prone to noise…and this thing will amplify hiss and hum and anything else that happens to find its way in. You also need a WELL REGULATED power supply to get rid of that 60-cycle hum or you will have a very noisy circuit.

BOSS HM-2 HEAVY METAL DISTORTION

This long discontinued pedal has it’s long reign of mid-tone terror back in the eighties and over the years has become a common pawnshop site. This isn’t the most dynamic pedal out there but for deep dark power chord crunch and some occasional palm muted riffage this can really destroy em all on a budget. Going off of the suggested settings in HM-2 manual we pulled off a pretty convincing Black Sabbath, Judas Priest, and Iron Maiden mix of tones.
